Who Goes There?

Everyone. Well, not everyone, but anyone... There is no particular profile for a person who will love a theatrical performance. You can run your demographic models and statistical analysis all you want, but it all means less to us than one 6th grade boy grinning as he tries to pick his favorite scene and finally summing up the entire show as “a wackadoodle good time!” or the retired couple behind him smiling and talking about the performance as they head for the parking lot. Who goes there? You do!

Much Ado for the Camp Verde Library

On the 10th and 11th of April, 2015 Laark Productions and the Camp Verde Library produced Much Ado About Nothing at Boler’s Bar, Verde Brewing Company in Camp Verde, Arizona. Set in the Arizona Territory circa 1875, the production took the audience for a wild ride. The lovers were beautiful, the fools were foolish and the villains dastardly. If you missed the show you missed a great experience. Photographs are available to view on Laark Productions’ web site.

Shakespeare in the Pines

(As You Like It is not a guide to managing your Facebook account.)

William Shakespeare’s As You Like It is a zany pastoral romp through the forest with some of the silliest lovers ever to take the stage.
The action takes place in a French kingdom where Duke Frederick has seized power and driven his brother and loyal followers into exile in the Forest of Arden-- where they rusticate quite happily. The story opens with another pair of quarreling brothers: Oliver, the eldest, is keeping his younger brother, Orlando, from the right of his inheritance. Learning that Orlando intends to wrestle for a prize, Oliver plots to have Orlando killed by the Duke’s champion wrestler. This plot fails and instead Orlando meets Rosalind, the girl he is destined to love. Rosalind, the daughter of the exiled Duke, is the constant companion of the ruling Duke’s daughter, her cousin Celia, but that is not enough to save her from the Duke Fredrick’s wrath and she is banished from the court on pain of death. Joined by Touchstone the fool, the girls disguise themselves and flee into the forest, as does Orlando with his ancient yet faithful servant, Adam.  There they meet the banished Duke and his colorful entourage, as well as a number of clever- and not so clever- country people.Tomfoolery follows as Rosalind, disguised as the shepherd-boy, Ganymede, meets Orlando in the forest and attempts to teach him about women.  Ganymede (Rosalind) is also pursued by the lusty and determined shepherdess, Phebe, who is in turn wooed by her devoted lover, Silvius. Meanwhile, Oliver, still pursuing his younger brother, arrives on the scene and immediately falls in love with Celia, in her disguise as a shepherdess. Even the relentlessly mocking Touchstone finds a lover.
Finally, Rosalind resumes her woman’s clothes and sorts out the many love affairs so all lovers end up with their proper mates, the evil find repentance and the good are rewarded.
On the 26th and 27th of June Laark Productions will partner with The Highlands Center for Natural History  for the 2nd annual Shakespeare in the Pines. The interpretation is fresh as a French baguette and delivers a laugh a minute. This production is must see entertainment in a venue that sold out two performances last year. This is the hottest ticket in the coolest place in Prescott.
